Research and benchmarking

Over three years at Dojo, the process evolved from benchmarking and competitor analysis to iterative design based on data and strategy. Learning that most of our users were on desktop my goal was to simplify key information so that it sat above the fold, making our emails faster and easier to digest.

Wireframing

The research process informed what kind of blocks I needed to design to guarantee a long lifecycle for the first phase of the template we knew in future we would need to design bespoke blocks but what I put together would be enough for most types of emails Dojo would ever need to send.

Visual Exploration

iteration on layout and how the brand's colour harmony could cater to creating exciting and semiotic led designs to increase legibility and information flow I created hundreds of different styles to inform my final design desicions.

Displaying key information effectively to time-strapped business owners was a crucial aspect of this design decision. I prioritized creating a fully functional color palette and pre-set font styles that would be versatile and effective for any type of message.

Mastering the visual balance in email design for dark mode is tough. I've developed advanced techniques to ensure color display and maintain all graphic elements seamlessly across both light and dark settings, leveraging transparent color and PNG file functionalities.

Email design is hard to control when it goes dark mode, I perfected methods to display colours and make sure that no visual element is lost while perfectly blending in with it's light/dark environments through the use of opacity in colour and pngs

It featured organic, soft edges for a timeless look and feel, adaptable to various layouts like bento boxes while maintaining a welcoming aesthetic. Strategically placed information pull-outs saved readers time. Each block had removable elements - headlines, images, and icons - promoting layout uniformity while offering a fresh appearance with every message.

Through my experience working on customer communications, my product knowledge helped me develop what I like to call UI expressions – these small snippets of UI combined with lifestyle imagery brought Dojo's offerings to life in a unique way. With this initiative, my role expanded to ensure all our customer touchpoints were consistent and visually engaging across marketing and product channels.

Having designed hundreds of emails above are some examples of each type of the comms Dojo sent out the most, They supported every innitiative and areas of the business from creating a community of dojo users who loved the product to obtain feedback to large campaigns launching hardware, software and providing business with cash advances through Youlend.
